Itinerary
DAY1: MARRAKECH TO TAROUDANNT VIA TISINTAST(MOROCCO TOUR)
Taroudant is a city in the Sous Valley in southern Morocco. The town is known as the "Grandmother of Marrakesh" because it looks like a smaller Marrakesh with its surrounding ramparts. In the sixteenth century, the Saadiens dynasty briefly used Taroudant as a capital, before it moved its royal seat onwards to Marrakesh. Today, the city has the feel of a small fortified market town on a caravan route.
DAY2: TAROUDANNT TO TAZENAKHT(MOROCCO TOUR)
The weaving and knotting traditions of the Moroccan Berber people, date back to pre-Islamic times. The rapid expansion of Islam brought classical rug traditions from China, India, Central Asia, Persia and Anatolia to Northern Africa. So, Morocco became the western-most border of the ‘rug belt’ as well as of Islamic culture. Tazenakht, is the focal point of this region and a well know spot for high quality rugs.
DAY3: TAZENAKHT TO ZAGORA DESERT(MOROCCO TOUR)
Dusty streets, terracotta buildings, huge skies. Zagora,(south-east of Morocco), is a place that is inextricably linked with the Sahara Desert. Named after the nearby mountain, Zagora was once a stronghold of the Almoravid people, and their legacy can still be seen in the surrounding hills. Outside the town is the amazing Draa Valley, which follows the twists and turns of the river - an unforgettable place where thick groves of palm trees, line the twists and turns of the river, while the Jbel Saghro mountain range rises in the background.
DAY4: ZAGORA TO DESERT IN MERZOUGA(MOROCCO TOUR)
Moroccan legend says, that the Erg Chebbi sand dunes were sent by God as a punishment for turning away a weary traveler from Morocco's Sahara desert. Moroccans believe that the dunes piled up outside Merzouga to teach them a lesson, so that they would never refuse to help tired travelers ever again. The Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga are indisputably one of the greatest sights of Morocco. These giant hills of smooth sand, line the Algerian border and are a must see for everyone.
DAY5: MERZOOGA DESERT-ERFOUD-TINGHIR(MOROCCO TOURS)
We will continue our adenture to Merzouga, driving through some rocky desert landscape.Upon arrival at Palais Des dunes lodge, feel free to take a swim at their freshening pool before getting ready for your sunset desert trek to the camp.
Meet our camel caravan, and ride your camels through the amazing color-changing sand dunes, with the sunset in the horizon as a backdrop. We reach our Sahara desert camp before darkness. After some time to admire the sand dunes and the surrounding landscapes, get ready for a Moroccan dinner served under the stars next to the campfire. Late at night, your local nomad hosts will be entertaining you with their drums.
Erfoud is known by the name of "Gate of Sahara Desert," as it is near Erg Chebbi Dunes, and you can actually take direct off-road tracks to the dunes. Many films were shot in the area, some of the most famous are: Prince of Persia; The Mummy; March or Die.
While many Ksars (fortified villages) have existed for centuries, Erfoud was built new by the French around 1920s. Arabs are the majority but as the tourist industry developed, many Berbers started coming to the city around 1990s.
DAY6: TINGHIR-SKOURA-OUARZAZATE - AIT BENHADDOU(MOROCCO TOURS)
Searching for a first class oasis in Morocco? Then you should definitely visit Tinghir and the Todra Gorge! The town is not just known for its immense green palmeries, but is also the entrance to the popular Todra Gorge in Morocco. The Todra Canyon is dramatically beautiful, and the road is one of the most spectacular ones in this country. Explore small Berber villages, and be astonished by the natural beauty. Tinghir and Todra Gorge are some of the best places to visit in Morocco, for sure one of its most beautiful natural wonders.
Skoura is the first stop on the 1,000 kasbahs road between Ouarzazate and Tafilalet. According to legend, it was founded in the 12th century under the Almohad dynasty. The palm grove takes its name from the Berber tribe that lived there at that time, the Haskourene. Since then, several populations have followed one another, including the Arab tribes from the Tafilalet, making Skoura an Arab territory in the Berber country.
Ouarzazate has stood at the edge of the Sahara desert for hundreds of years. A city of palm trees, sandy streets and blocky, fort-like buildings, this is the Morocco seen in a hundred movies. The name Ouarzazate comes from the Amazigh for ‘quiet place’, and compared to many of its fellow Moroccan towns and cities, there is a certain calm to be found here.
DAY7: AITBENHDOU-TELOUET-MARRAKECH(MOROCCO TOURS)
Ait Ben Haddou has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, and several major films have been shot there, including Gladiator, The Mummy... Most of the town’s inhabitants now live in a more modern village, at the other side of the river, however, ten families still live within the ksar. Once in Ait Ben Haddou, you have the choice to have lunch, or visit the village first with a local guide. Around 3 pm we will drive back to Marrakech. After that visit Telouet Kasbah, which was once the palatial residence and headquarters of the powerful Glaoui tribe.
